Among the gems is The Hub of Hubbard, a 1970 session that finds trumpeter Freddie Hubbard at a pivotal moment in his career. Having made his name with Atlantic Records by navigating the space between hard bop and the avant-garde, Hubbard here embraces a more traditional bebop setting, reaffirming his command of the idiom while showing off the full brilliance of his technique.

Recorded with a quintet featuring tenor saxophonist Eddie Daniels, pianist Roland Hanna, bassist Richard Davis, and drummer Louis Hayes, Hubbard is in dazzling form across four tracks: the standard “Without a Song,” a blisteringly fast take on “Just One of Those Things,” the blues workout “Blues for Duane,” and a tender ballad version of “The Things We Did Last Summer.” For this reissue, engineers Christoph Stickel and Dirk Sommer have meticulously remastered the original tapes, delivering pristine 180-gram vinyl pressings housed in jackets with the original artwork—an audiophile presentation worthy of the music’s enduring vitality.
