Retail Associate (Finer Sounds, Brooklyn)

Finer Sounds is a growing independent record and audio shop located at the Ace Hotel Brooklyn. We sell new vinyl (we're cross-genre, with a focus on International, Jazz, Funk/Soul, Electronic and Experimental), cassettes, and audio gear including turntables, speakers, and headphones.

ON THE FLOOR

• Help customers find and select records, audio equipment, and accessories in a friendly, unpretentious way. Greet everyone who walks in, and be genuinely useful and attentive whether someone is buying a turntable setup or just browsing.
• Run the register on Shopify POS: sales, returns, and in-store pickups.
• Open and close the shop.
• Learn the audio gear well enough to set up a turntable, explain the basics, and demo speakers or headphones for a first-time buyer.
• Keep the floor in order: bins filed and alphabetized, new arrivals and restocks out the same day, and the shop tidy.
• Help run in-store events, including our Listen Up! listening sessions.

BEHIND THE COUNTER

• Enter new titles and gear into our system, and help keep the online store in step with the shelves.
• Receive shipments: check them in, sticker them, and get them on the floor.
• Pack and ship online orders as they come in, including post office runs.
• Fix the small things before they become big things: a stock count that's off, a title in the wrong section, or a customer who got the wrong variant of a record.

• You've worked retail or another job where you enjoy helping and interacting with customers.
• You know and care about the music we sell. 
• You're mindful of details and comfortable with data entry.
• You're open and willing to learn software. Shopify POS and admin, Google Sheets, Monday.com. 
• You can be on your feet for a full shift, lift a 40-pound box of records, and work weekends. Saturdays and Sundays are our busiest days.
• You are reliable and punctual.

• Where: In person at Finer Sounds, 252 Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, NY.
• Schedule: This is a part-time position, about 20 hours a week. You must have consistent weekend availability, plus occasional evening availability for events. 
• Pay: $20 per hour
