Helado Negro’s forthcoming EP, The Last Sound on Earth, is a collection of songs inspired by a morbid curiosity about the last sound one might hear before dying. Reflecting growing anxiety over the state of the world, the EP channels profound despair, anguish, and sorrow for the world around us. In earlier projects, Lange often found positivity through music and dance: “I've found a way of moving my body on stage that gives me a direct, freeing feeling with the music.” These days, he acknowledges a darker reality: “The doom is real, and the gloom is unfortunate; I'm not sure how to make this any lighter.”

The opening track, “More,” captures the overwhelming sensation of being inundated with excess. Tracks like “Sender Receiver” and “Protector” offer pointed critiques of those in power—using technical terminology rooted in violence and governmental structures to highlight the concentration of authority among an elite few and the inherent flaws in the system. Yet even amidst this gloom, glimmers of hope emerge. The closing tracks, “Zenith” and “Don’t Give Up Now,” encourage endurance and resilience, suggesting that change—both internal and external—is still possible.
