Z Records continues its dedication to unearthing obscure and long-forgotten tracks from the past 40 years through its acclaimed Under The Influence series. Following editions curated by Red Greg, Nick The Record, Sean P, Faze Action, and last year’s Alena Arpels, the latest installment is by one of the scene’s most impressive collectors and DJs, Rahaan. Hailing from Chicago, Rahaan’s love of music began in the late ’70s and early ’80s, listening to the radio and his parents’ records every weekend. On the South Side of Chicago in the early ’80s, he discovered what became known as house music—a blend of disco, jazz, soul, funk, new wave, and Italo disco. For this compilation, Rahaan digs deep into his extensive record collection, amassed through years of traveling, networking, and DJing, to showcase 22 of his rarest and finest cuts, many of which would cost hundreds if originals could even be found. As with all Z Records compilations, meticulous care has gone into creating the masters from the original vinyl, removing clicks and pops to deliver the cleanest possible sound.
