Makaya McCraven - Where We Come From (Chicago × London Mixtape) Vinyl LP

Over three days in London, drummer and producer Makaya McCraven teamed up with first-time collaborators Theon Cross, Nubya Garcia, Joe Armon-Jones, Soweto Kinch, Ashley Henry, Daniel Casimir, and Kamaal Williams for two improvised performances at the legendary UK jazz hub Total Refreshment Centre (TRC), as part of the two-night CHICAGOxLONDON showcase. The following Sunday, producers LeFtO, Ben LaMar Gay, Quiet Dawn, Earl Jeffers, and Don Leisure (Darkhouse Family) joined TRC’s Fresh Roasted: Live Beat-Making & Battle, creating live remixes of those performances. Additional reworks by Emma-Jean Thackray and Lexus Blondin were added, after which McCraven brought all the remixes and raw recordings back to his Chicago studio—chopping, reshaping, and re-composing them into two continuous side-long suites that became the CHICAGOxLONDON mixtape.
