Following the breakout success of 'Cicero Nights', Chicago composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist James Weir returns with 'Everything to Remember', the second album from his Blue Earth Sound project, arriving later this year via DeepMatter Records.
Recorded across multiple sessions in Chicago and developed during writing retreats in rural Wisconsin, Everything to Remember is an album rooted in memory, nostalgia and the quiet moments that shape our lives. Rather than telling stories through lyrics, Weir uses instrumental music to evoke feeling, exploring the way certain places, sounds and melodies have the power to transport us back to another time.
Across ten original compositions, Blue Earth Sound expands the cinematic world first introduced on Cicero Nights. Warm Fender Rhodes, Hammond organ, guitars, flute and saxophone weave through soulful grooves and richly layered arrangements, drawing inspiration from Marvin Gaye, Johnny 'Hammond' Smith, Piero Umiliani, Talk Talk and The Smiths, while remaining unmistakably rooted in Chicago's collaborative music scene.
The album reunites Weir with longtime collaborators including drummer Patch Romanowski, flautist and saxophonist Eamonn Prizy, International Anthem engineer Dave Vettraino and Resavoir trumpeter Will Miller. Together they create a record that feels expansive yet deeply personal; equally suited to attentive listening at home as it is to providing the soundtrack to a late-night drive through the city.
Speaking about the record, Weir explains:
"We started recording in November of 2025 over multiple sessions with Dave at his new studio on the deep south side of Chicago. Trips to Patch's family cabin in Rome, Wisconsin were done to get demos recorded and fleshed out in a rural, secluded, inspired space while listening to Pink Floyd B-sides, New Age music, Mizell Brothers productions, Marvin Gaye and The Smiths."
Following support from BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM, NTS, KEXP and Clash Magazine, alongside three sold-out vinyl pressings of Cicero Nights, Everything to Remember finds Blue Earth Sound taking another confident step forward, deepening the project's distinctive blend of cinematic jazz, soul and analogue-inspired composition.
