More Adventurous, released in 2004, marked a turning point for Los Angeles indie rock band Rilo Kiley, both in visibility and in musical scope. The album blends the group’s literate songwriting with a broader range of arrangements, moving from folk-tinged storytelling to more direct pop and rock structures. Fronted by Jenny Lewis, whose sharp, often personal lyrics drive much of the record, More Adventurous includes some of the band’s most recognized songs, such as “Portions for Foxes” and “It’s a Hit.” The release came via Brute/Beaute Records with distribution through Warner Bros., expanding the band’s reach beyond their earlier independent work and solidifying their place in the mid-2000s indie scene.
