Sam Gendel, Sam Wilkes - The Doober Vinyl LP

The Doober, the latest collaboration between saxophonist Sam Gendel and bassist Sam Wilkes, documents a series of intimate explorations on C-Melody saxophone and Fender P-Bass. Blending arrangements of selected material with original compositions, the album highlights subtle variations in instrumentation, sound, and repertoire, placing melody and arrangement at the center while allowing for complete freedom of expression. Following their acclaimed releases Music for Saxofone & Bass Guitar (2018) and More Songs (2021), the duo expands their dialogue across recordings made in Japan and Los Angeles between 2022 and 2023. Performed, recorded, mixed, and produced entirely by Gendel and Wilkes, with mastering by Matthewdavid McQueen and additional work by Joey Genetti, The Doober is both a continuation and reinvention of their sonic partnership—an understated yet richly detailed chronicle of collaboration.
