After more than two decades under their Atlantic Records contract—a deal Hayley Williams signed as a teenager—Paramore announced in December 2023 that they were finally independent. This surprise collection is Williams’ first self-released project through her new imprint, Post Atlantic, and represents the third body of work from her as a solo artist. During the COVID era, she released two acclaimed albums, Petals for Armor (2020) and Flowers for Vases (2021), both intimate meditations on loss that contrasted with Paramore’s high-energy sound. Pitchfork noted that Petals for Armor epitomized “vulnerability and transformative growth,” while Flowers for Vases highlighted Williams’ “husky and gentle, dangerous yet warm” voice, with minimal production serving as “a purposeful reset.”
