Soichi Terada - Sounds From The Far East Vinyl 2LP (Pre-Order)

Originally released in 2015, Sounds from the Far East features highly sought-after material by legendary Japanese house producer Soichi Terada, alongside fellow producers Shinichiro Yokota and Manabu Nagayama. Compiled by Hunee, this two-LP set delves deep into Terada’s catalogue, capturing the hearts of DJs and music lovers worldwide.

Soichi Terada is an adventurous multi-talent and all-around remarkable human being. Born in the 1960s, he developed a love for music playing his father’s electric organ as a child. Terada later majored in Computer Science and Electric Organ, and in 1989 he founded Far East Recording after struggling to find a label for his compositions.

The sound of Far East Recording was heavily inspired by early ’90s US deep house. In the late ’80s, Terada attended parties where he absorbed influences from house and hip-hop, and by the early ’90s he was producing music using digital sampling. He occasionally DJ-ed using a DAT player and reel-to-reel tapes instead of conventional turntables, allowing him to mix his own unique cuts. Sounds from the Far East shines a focused light on Terada’s early ’90s label output. Alongside Terada’s tracks, Hunee selected material from Shinichiro Yokota and included “Sun Showered,” a 1991 track produced by Terada and Nami Shimada, inspired by the Paradise Garage classic “Sunshower.”

Reflecting on the compilation 10 years after its initial release, Terada says:

"This is a dream I never even dreamed of. Since releasing my new album Asakusa Light toward the end of the global coronavirus pandemic, I’ve been fortunate to keep performing live. When I think about those performances, blending tracks from the ’90s with more recent material, they feel like one continuous piece. When I first started making and performing house music, I never imagined I’d still be doing this decades later. That’s thanks in part to the advice I received from Rush Hour during production, but most of all, to everyone who picked up the record and came to the shows. I’m eternally grateful. Ten years have passed since the release of Sounds From The Far East in 2015, and I’m thrilled to share this new edition with updated packaging, while still having the chance to perform this music on stage."
